About Foroi
Foroi (φόροι, "taxes") is about one subject: where Cyprus's public money comes from, where it goes, and what one person's share of it is.
It is told as stories, not as a dashboard. Each story makes one claim, shows the number behind it, sets out fairly what people argue about, and says how we know.
What it is not
Foroi does not campaign for lower taxes or for higher spending. It gives money coming in the same attention as money going out. Where people disagree, it states each side and says what the numbers can settle and what they cannot.
It is not tax advice, and it is not an official publication.
Who makes it
Foroi is an independent project by Vladimir Bugay and part of the 43D family of Cyprus open-data sites: Fragmata on the reservoirs, Monopatia on hiking trails, Kairika on the weather and Giatroi on doctors.
It takes no money from any party, ministry or company.
The data
The figures come from official sources, named under each chart. Estimates and statements quoted from the press are labelled as such. The Method page describes all of it.
Reusing Foroi
Charts and text are free to reuse under CC BY 4.0, with credit. The Media page explains how, with chart images, share cards and the logo.
Your reactions
Under a story you can say whether you knew its main number, which side of an argument convinces you, and what we should cover next. It takes one tap, with no account and no email. We keep the answer, the page and the language, and a random number your browser makes so that each answer is counted once; clearing your browser's storage makes a new one. To stop one connection answering again and again, we keep for a day a scrambled form of your internet address that cannot be turned back into it, then delete it. Suggestions are read by us only and never published. The results show what readers of the page answered, not what Cyprus thinks.
The salary and pension calculators work on your device: what you type is not sent to us or recorded, and our page statistics leave out the numbers in a page's address.
